DocSnap Teams with Softensity to Put Electronic Health Records into the Hands of the Patient
Overview
DocSnap is a family of mobile and web applications that give healthcare patients easy access to their complete medical records through a mobile device. The consumer-mediated health information exchange (HIE) allows patients to easily view and share their health records, or those of their family members, with any number of doctors and medical providers anywhere, at any time.
The solution also provides users with on-demand virtual care, direct messaging with their healthcare providers, and other care management tools. Users can share images, health records, and secure messages with providers and family members, and keep track of lab results, medications, and more. The providers’ app allows doctors to connect with patients through the provider web portal or mobile application, and all healthcare information is sent and received on a secure platform.
Challenge
DocSnap faced many challenges to create the app, including protecting the privacy and security of patient health information, which is regulated by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA). All health records, test results, medication information, and communication with providers needed to be protected. DocSnap also required a diverse range of skillsets to build multiple versions of the app, for both patients and providers, that would run on multiple platforms — iOS and Android, as well as the web.
The Solution
DocSnap didn’t have to look far when searching for developers that could handle the task. Having successfully worked with Softensity’s team on a similar project for more than a year (the TactusMD health records system), the founders were eager to team up with Softensity again to build the DocSnap app.
Softensity served as a one-stop-shop for DocSnap and built the app from scratch, handling all software architecture, development, QA, business analysis, and project management. During the two-year engagement, Softensity’s team of five developers built multiple custom versions of that app across platforms.
The developers followed HIPPA protocols and procedures when creating the application, and built the software on a DirectTrust Network to ensure the secure information transfer of all medical records. The system was built to integrate with electronic health records (EHRs) and HIEs using Health Level 7 (HL7) and Continuity of Care Document (CCD) standards on the Smart on FHIR platform.
The Results
DocSnap offers the convenience of easy access to an individual or family’s complete medical records with built-in security and privacy for ultimate peace of mind. Having this information at the fingertips of both patients and providers reduces inefficiencies and eliminates medical errors at the point of care. It has never been easier or more convenient to access secure medical records for an entire family.
